Do you support clients outside New Hampshire and Massachusetts?
Yes. On-site work concentrates in the cities listed on this page, but support is remote-first everywhere and available nationwide. Through our partner network we can also arrange on-site attendance elsewhere in the country when a job genuinely needs someone in the room.
Which data protection rules apply to my organization?

Massachusetts 201 CMR 17.00 requires a written information security program from anyone holding personal information about a Massachusetts resident, wherever that organization sits. New Hampshire RSA 359-C:20 requires breach notification but sets no prescriptive standard. Organizations operating on both sides of the border inherit both and in practice build to the Massachusetts standard.

Which Side of the Border Your Data Sits on Matters
Massachusetts imposes a written information security program requirement on anyone holding personal information about a state resident, wherever that organization is based. New Hampshire imposes breach notification but no prescriptive standard.
Organizations operating on both sides of the line inherit both, and in practice build to the Massachusetts standard.
- Massachusetts 201 CMR 17.00Any organization holding personal information about a Massachusetts resident must maintain a written information security program, wherever that organization is located. It specifies encryption of personal data on portable devices and in transit, access controls limiting who can reach it, oversight of third-party providers who handle it, and periodic review. There is no exemption for small organizations, which is what catches most people out.
- New Hampshire RSA 359-C:20Notification to affected individuals and the Attorney General is required when computerized personal information is acquired without authorization. No prescriptive security standard is attached, so in practice the obligations that bite come from your sector’s regulator, your insurer, or your customers rather than from the state.
- Sector rules sit on top of bothHIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, PCI DSS and NIST 800-171 apply regardless of which side of the border you are on.
