HIPAA-Aligned IT Support for Healthcare Providers
A practice can absorb a slow morning. It cannot absorb a day without the EHR, and it certainly cannot absorb a breach notification.
What Does HIPAA-Compliant IT Support Involve?
HIPAA-aligned IT support means implementing the administrative, physical and technical safeguards of the HIPAA Security Rule and being able to evidence them. In practice that is risk analysis, access control, and unique user identification, audit logging, encryption at rest and in transit, contingency planning, and business associate agreements with every vendor that touches protected health information.
Netlogic supports clinics, practices, and hospitals across New Hampshire and Massachusetts, covering the clinical systems that cannot go down and the medical devices that cannot be patched.
The problem
What Makes Clinical IT Different
Downtime Has a Clinical Cost
An outage does not delay revenue, it delays care. Recovery objectives have to be set against patient impact, not convenience.
Medical Devices You Cannot Patch
Imaging and diagnostic equipment frequently runs unsupported operating systems the manufacturer will not let you update. Segmentation is the only answer.
ePHI Leaks Through Ordinary Tools
Most protected health information exposure happens through email, shared drives, and personal phones rather than through a hospital-scale breach.
Every Vendor Is a Liability
A business associate agreement is required before a supplier touches ePHI, and their breach becomes your notification obligation.
Requirements
The Frameworks We Work To
- HIPAA Security RuleAdministrative, physical, and technical safeguards, with the risk analysis that underpins all of them.
- HIPAA Privacy and Breach NotificationAccess rules for protected health information and the notification obligations when it is exposed.
- HITRUST CSFFor organizations whose partners require certification rather than self-attestation.
- 42 CFR Part 2Additional protections for substance use disorder records, which are stricter than HIPAA alone.
Environment
Systems in a Typical Healthcare Environment
These are the platforms a healthcare environment typically runs on. We support the network, servers, endpoints, identity, and backup underneath them, and we coordinate with the software vendor when a problem turns out to be theirs. We do not administer the applications themselves.
- Electronic health record platforms
- Practice management systems
- PACS and imaging
- Telehealth platforms
- Secure messaging and referrals
- Medical device network segmentation
- Microsoft 365 with ePHI controls
- Encrypted backup with tested restore
Where we start
The Services That Matter Most Here
Every engagement begins with an assessment, but in this sector the work usually concentrates in these areas.
Digital Transformation for a Health and Wellness Provider
A corporate wellness organization was running biometric screening events on paper. We rebuilt the whole workflow on tooling they already licensed.
Common questions
Healthcare IT Questions
Will Netlogic sign a business associate agreement?
Yes. Any provider with access to systems containing protected health information must operate under a business associate agreement, and we sign one as a matter of course before work begins.
Does using Microsoft 365 make us HIPAA compliant?
No. Microsoft 365 can be configured to support HIPAA compliance and Microsoft will sign a business associate agreement, but a default tenant is not compliant. The safeguards that matter, including audit logging, retention, data loss prevention, conditional access, and encryption enforcement, have to be deliberately enabled and documented.
How do you protect medical devices that cannot be updated?
By isolating them. Where a manufacturer will not support patching, the device is placed on a segmented network with tightly controlled traffic, monitored access and no direct route to the internet, or to clinical workstations. The vulnerability remains, but its reachability does not.
