What Is Microsoft Copilot?
Microsoft Copilot is an AI assistant built into Microsoft 365 that drafts, summarizes and analyzes using your organization’s own data. It appears in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, and can summarize meetings, draft replies, build spreadsheets and surface information across files and conversations.
Because Copilot inherits each user’s existing permissions, a deployment is only as safe as the file and site permissions underneath it, which is where most rollouts go wrong.

Microsoft Copilot & AI Questions
Is Microsoft Copilot safe to use with confidential data?
It can be, with preparation. Copilot respects existing Microsoft 365 permissions and does not train public models on your data. The risk is not the AI, it is over-permissive sharing already present in your tenant, which Copilot makes easy to discover. We review and correct permissions before enabling it.
What license do we need for Microsoft Copilot?
Microsoft 365 Copilot is licensed per user, in addition to a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. Licensing terms change regularly, so we confirm current requirements and the seats you actually need as part of the deployment review.
Will our staff actually use it?
Only with training and a defined use case. In our experience adoption fails when Copilot is switched on and announced by email. It succeeds when a specific workflow is chosen, a standard is agreed and people are shown it in their own documents.
