Transforming SharePoint Online with New Section Backgrounds

In an era where digital workplace aesthetics play a pivotal role in enhancing user experience, Microsoft SharePoint Online is set to introduce an exciting update that will revamp the visual appeal of site pages. This development marks a significant stride towards more dynamically customizable and visually appealing site pages, tailor-made for general users looking to elevate their digital workspace.

New Aesthetic Features: A Closer Look

Curated Image and Gradient Color Backgrounds

With the upcoming update, SharePoint Online authors will now have the liberty to add not just any background, but curated images or gradient color backgrounds to page sections. This feature stands out as it allows for a personal touch and an enhanced visual experience, making your pages not just mere repositories of information, but also a canvas reflecting your organizational identity or project vibes.

Advanced Settings for Accessibility and Aesthetics

  • Improved Focal Points: Position the most important part of your background image exactly where you want it. This ensures that key elements remain visible across different device sizes.
  • Fill Mode: Choose how your background image fills the section, providing control over how the image is displayed, be it stretched, zoomed, or fitted.
  • Overlay and Opacity: Easy adjustments of overlay colors and opacity settings ensure that text remains legible against the background, adhering to accessibility standards.

Rollout Timeline

The rollout for these new features is scheduled to begin in mid-March 2024 for Targeted Release customers, followed by early April 2024 for Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD customers. The best part? No action is required from users to prepare for this rollout. SharePoint Page and News authors will seamlessly access the new features upon editing a page or news section. However, it’s crucial to note that unsupported section backgrounds in email will automatically default to SharePoint theme colors to ensure uniformity and accessibility across platforms.

How This Update Enhances SharePoint Usability

The integration of these new features into SharePoint Online represents a monumental leap towards creating more engaging and personalized digital spaces. By granting authors the ability to customize page backgrounds with curated images or gradient colors, along with intricate control over the display settings, SharePoint Online is empowering users to create environments that truly resonate with their vision. This not only elevates the user experience but also fosters an environment of creativity and personalization, making SharePoint Online a more inviting and engaging platform for collaboration and communication.
